WildsideAR 2017 is a unsupported race
This means once the race has started you are on your own!
An unsupported race means teams are not allowed a support crew and we will be moving gear and supplies around the course. This is what makes this sport so much more than just a race. Not only do you need to be physically ready but you need to be mentally prepared. This means teams will have to be organised and plan their resources carefully. Teams of 4 can have 4 gear boxes, 4 bike boxes and a paddle gear bag. Teams of 2 have 2 of each and one paddle gear bag. We will provide the paddle gear bag but teams will need to have a suitable and practical system for bundling their paddles. Kayaks are provided. So all you have to do is get to Race HQ and we take care of your gear from there.
For the gear boxes the max weight is 25kg per box. We strongly recommend high quality, weather proof, tough boxes as they will be out in all weather and moved in variable terrain. Your gear box cannot be larger than 100lt capacity. The best box we have found (and use) is the ToolPro Storage Trunk from Supercheap Auto. (They currently have them on special for only $29.99!) If you are not sure what box to get drop us a line and we will help you out or oganise the boxes to be waiting for you at RaceHQ.
Racers will also need a bike box. The box must be the standrad airline issue box - dimensions of 140cm x 80cm x 30cm. Corflute (or fluted plastic) boxes are tops and the best to get. Cardboard boxes are okay and can be purchased at most airport terminals but we strongly suggest reinforcing them with tape and contact. The max weight of the bike box is 30kg per box.
The team paddle bag, provided, cannot weigh more than 30kg.
There will be no outside assistance permitted during WildsideAR. If you have a crew coming down get them to volunteer. This is a great way to get amongst the action and be a part of the event.
